Heron Way, Warnham and Kingslea Share Ping Spoils

Feb 11, 2012

94 children from six schools made for the biggest and best ever Horsham area primary schools table tennis team championships at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre yesterday. With a skills event and the matchplay events being run in four banded sections there was plenty of opportunity for success to be shared around and Heron Way, Warnham and Kingslea schools were the chief beneficiaries of that fact.

In the matchplay event, supervised by newly appointed West Sussex Sussex Schools TT officer Martin Jezisek, Heron Way A (Anish Padalkar, Joe Widdowson, Jake Sinclair, James Bunch) took the much coveted Band A title with three team wins. In among a great team performance their No 3 player Jake Sinclair deserves special mention for going unbeaten.

Leechpool A (Ben Worley, Josh Dance, Zac Bown, Tommy Worley) fought bravely to come on second place led by No 1 position player Ben Worley who won all his games including a 21-20 win over Heron Way's Padalkar in the match of the day.

Kingslea A (James Kisserwany, Jed Hooper-Ridsdale, Kieran Bonner, Thomas Kisserwany) came out top dogs from Band B only dropping two matches all afternoon and the Kisserwany brothers remaining unbeaten. Southwater A (Josh Dankins, William Michell, Adam Boxall, Martin Joy) did well to take runners-up spot with confident victories over Greenway and Holbrook B teams.

In Band C Heron Way's second team won out in the tightest group, their 17 points just pipping Southwater B's total by two. Sam Showbridge was their leading light winning all his six matches from his No 1 position but Jamie Maunder, Felix Skipton-Carter and Matt Curran also provided good support. Southwater B quartet of Harry Huddlestone, Ben Johnson, Adam Crouch and Matt Neave can all pleased with their silver achieving efforts, especially Crouch who was only denied a full house of victories by losing the deciding point of the match with Holbrook C's Seb Ellis.

Warnham A (Callum Cranford, Aden Jennings, Louie Darlington and Victoria Kent) dominated Band D with three conclusive victories. Cranford was their star man winning all his matches. Kingslea B's team of Ethan Penticost, Joey Kent, Sean Carter and Matt Howard) will have been more than satisfied with achieving second spot with their collective efforts.

The skills event also provided lots of endeavour and excitement. Results across the different disciplines were top-turvy as evidenced by winners Warnham C only gaining maximum points from four of the 12 scoring categories. However if they did not top every event Warnham's third team of Ben, James, Matthew and Will certainly earned their title with consistency, only dipping into the bottom half of points achieved twice and even then they achieved four points for their trouble.

Kingslea D (Damien, Kieron, Maddie and Anna) and Southwater C (Ella, Amelia, Will and James) with 70 and 68 points trailed Warnham's total of 79 to creditably achieve second and third positions respectively in the competition.

Thanks were conveyed at the end to Collyers Sixth Form sport leaders who provided vital support for the afternoon. All children were presented with certificates and invitation forms to develop their talent further within Horsham Table Tennis Club's junior coaching ranks.
