HTTC Sports Science Project
After attending an influencing motivation, confidence and skill learning course, the coaches of Horsham Table Tennis Club have embarked upon an exciting sports science project. The club has linked up with a sports psychology lecturer and student from Chichester University to help coaches improve on factors such as challenging performers optimally, how to goal set with youngsters, regular and irregular practice and goal setting methods.
The project will be carried out on a Monday evening at Rory Scott's advanced session with Matt Smith (trainee sports psychologist). Having spoken with lead coach Rory Scott and assistant coach Sally Weston, Matt has put together a detailed proposal which will:
- Enable players to identify areas for improvement in their competitive matchplay, and be able to set goals in order to progress in these areas.
- Enable players and coaches to develop methods to measure progress in these goals (players' motivation and confidence should increase as a result of identifiable improvement)
- Focus in practice to improve as a result of striving to meet their set goals.
- Enable the goal-setting process to become self-sustaining with coaches and players educated in this process so that they are able to set goals for themselves in the future and measure their progress.
If you would like more information about this project please contact Natalie Payne on 01403-215638.
